La Tempesta

The final Presto of Summer, from Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, is one of the most dramatic and electrifying movements in the entire Baroque repertoire. A late summer storm breaks without warning: strings sweeping in fierce gusts, accents striking like claps of thunder, an unrelenting rhythm that offers no respite. The oppressive heat of summer suddenly gives way to the sublime violence of the storm.

It is this radiant, untamed energy that the perfumer sought to translate. A citrus, aromatic, and spicy composition where the sparkle of citrus fruits and vibrant spices captures all the tension and intensity woven into the music.

Grapefruit strikes in the opening, vibrant with a subtle bitterness, like the first stroke of the bow drawing the air taut. Ginger follows, sparkling and electric, as the tempo suddenly surges like an unexpected gust, irresistible and unstoppable. Jasmine bursts forth at the heart of the composition, fortissimo, intoxicating and sublime the full brilliance of the summer sun before the storm takes hold.

Black pepper then asserts itself, dry and incisive, embodying the dramatic intensity of the storm. Basil concludes with a fresh, green breath, legato: the rain-soaked garrigue echoing after the tempest, the air saturated with the scent of nature unleashed.
